Reading the mountains

I have photographed these hills since 2018. They are not consistent and I have stopped expecting them to be: the valley can sit under cloud at noon and clear by four, or do the exact reverse while everyone is getting dressed. What that taught me was to quit waiting for the light I wanted and get very good at using the light I have.

A 250-acre ranch between the Blue Ridge and the George Washington National Forest, with the Shenandoah River running along one edge. On-site lodging means the getting-ready, ceremony, and candlelit barn dinner all happen without a car key.
